A hushed, delicate album of free-flowing avant-folk, with hints of contemporary composition and jazz thrown in as well, STARFLOWERS is possessed of a warmth that belies its icy Nordic origins. Langeland wields a haunting voice, and her mastery of the kantele (a traditional Norwegian harp) pushes things into the celestial realm. The chops of her jazz backing band bring the proceedings back to the terrestrial plane somewhat, but this is an album determined to stay unattached to any one specific time or space.
