Recorded in 1991, this a cappella recording has a timeless quality as hand-in-velvet-glove harmonies work their magic on songs new and old, with blasts from the past in
Jerry Butler,
the Spaniels, and
the Chi-Lites. Credit must go to the group,
Stormy Weather, who not only organized this doo wop project, but also sang five of the 15 selections, including the original "Street Carols" that sounds like a lost gem from 1954. David Somerville, ex-lead singer of
The Diamonds, does all four vocal parts on "The Last Month of the Year," but the CD peaks with
Ronnie Spector's version of
Frankie Lymon's "Creation of Love" (with reworked lyrics to fit the Yule theme). ~ Dennis MacDonald
