Norway's
Mactatus does nothing on
Suicide that would allow the black metal outfit to graduate from the genre's second tier of mostly forgettable satanic combos. While ferocious, the group's music has too many clumsy dynamic shifts and a generally muddled sound. There isn't much separation or detail to distinguish the guitars, keyboards, and the hoarse black metal screams, all of which are predictably average.
Suicide might represent only the slightest musical improvement for this competant but unremarkable band. The gains are nowhere near enough to warrant a general recommendation. There are not enough good dynamic transitions, and the material is only average. Fans of
Mactatus should enjoy this 2002 Napalm release. Aficionados of only the best Scandinavian metal need not concern themselves with
Suicide.
