The bulk of this CD is a reissue of a 1974 LP put out by the British "77" label featuring tenor saxophonist
Bud Freeman (in consistently exuberant form) with pianist
Keith Ingham, bassist
Pete Chapman and drummer Johnny Armitage; among the highlights are "Please," "'S Wonderful," "You Took Advantage of Me" and "Tea For Two." Although a piano solo by
Ingham has been left off, he recorded six additional solos in 1992 of rarely performed
Freeman compositions (including "After Awhile," "Craz-e-ology" and "Tillie's Downtown Now") to add to this set. High-quality mainstream jazz that should please pre-bop collectors.
