A disc based in the neo-classical power and fantasy type of prog metal, this CD fares a lot better than many in that genre. So many times bands that try to create in that niche become very overblown, pompous, and silly.
Mob Rules does not fall into that trap. In fact, this disc has some incredible prog metal with strong
Iron Maiden and
Queensryche leanings. Yes, they do go in for the neo-classical arrangements and the powerful textures, but they temper it with a mature restraint and the performances are very strong. The music is very diverse in approach, going from straightforward metal to balladic to
Dream Theater-ish prog, sometimes in the course of one song. This is a very strong work.
