One of five CDs in Denon's series, this release has some interesting if hard-to-trace material.
Bill Evans performs two numbers with his classic 1961 trio (which includes bassist
Scott LaFaro and drummer
Paul Motian),
Bud Powell plays two lengthy songs with a quintet that features trumpeter Clark Terry in 1957,
Teddy Wilson's trio runs through a pair of standards,
Thelonious Monk and a quintet with
Charlie Rouse on tenor and trumpeter
Thad Jones play a version of "Light Blue" that is supposedly from a European tour in 1958 (doubtful) and
Chick Corea is heard on the out-of-place and rather spacey "Sundance," a lengthy improvisation with a group of modernists in 1969. It's a mixed bag.
