The Clint Boon Experience,
Clint Boon's keyboard-laden pop/rock outfit, will never receive the attention that they deserve. Their one and only album to date, The Compact Guide to Pop Music and Space Travel, features a unique fusion of power pop and pop/rock, with a good dose of
Viv Stanshall-style humor to boot, and is one of the most fun albums of the last of few years. This wacky release, despite the occasional occurrence of some rather cheesy songwriting, has some superbly enjoyable moments. "White No Sugar,"
Boon's ode to Internet Café's, is as humorous as it is catchy; the same can be said of many of the highlights on Pop Music and Space Travel. Adding to the charm of the album is the fact that it's easily accessible yet highly original music that has a feel-good factor like few other recordings. Dotted throughout this release are, admittedly, some failings. The overuse of keyboards and the similarity of its 12 tracks will undoubtedly deter some from purchasing the Clint Boon Experience's debut album. Pop Music and Space Travel, however, is a refreshing slice of music that delights in places, but clearly fails in other areas. ~ Ben Davies
