This is one of many compilations drawn from
Paul Robeson's 1930s recordings for the British EMI label. Despite being referred to in the skimpy, often inaccurate liner notes as a "selection of his greatest performances," it mixes some of his best -- including "Ol' Man River" -- with the sometimes second-rate material he was given to record. Still, with 20 tracks and a running time near 58 minutes, it is an adequate collection if purchased for a discount price. Don't spring for it as a high-priced import, however; there are better domestic collections and better imports.
