Imagine if
Einstürzende Neubauten were remixed by
Brian Eno at the height of his ambient phase and you'll get an idea what
Rh Band sounds like. These seven untitled tracks, ranging in length from just over two minutes to not quite 15, are live-in-the-studio improvisations based on single-chord drones. Noisier than the far superior follow-up, 1998's First Tone,
Third Order Parasitism is a lo-fi collection of homemade instruments and effects, augmented with some more standard instruments to create atonal, amelodic soundscapes that either unfold and undulate pleasantly or sit in one place for several minutes at a time. There is nothing actually wrong with
Third Order Parasitism, but listeners with a background in drones and noise rock will quickly recognize that there's little here that hasn't been done before. ~ Stewart Mason
