The first US release by Sweden's This Perfect Day is, unfortunately, by far the weakest of the group's first three efforts, far overshadowed by 1992's Rubber Soul (one of the key albums in the entire Swedish pop explosion of the '90s) and 1995's Don't Smile. The US version is further weakened by an unneeded remix by Minneapolis dance-pop producer Bobby Z, which really blunts the Teenage Fanclub-like crunchy guitars and ragged harmonies that peek out from behind the slick surfaces of songs like "Headache," "I'm In Love" and especially the single "Teenage Monster," which nonetheless manages to be the best song on that album thanks to its anthemic chorus. The other pair of highlights are the two softer acoustic songs, the haunting "Jesus On Your Side" and a tender portrait of teenage sex and peer pressure, "Everybody Knows." The rest of the album lacks the memorable hooks and striking lyrics of these songs; This Perfect Day's next US release, 1998's C-60, would be a vast improvement over this unfocused effort.
