This French LP contains a variety of performances featuring cornetist
King Oliver. The pioneering cornetist is heard on seven Okeh recordings with his classic
Creole Jazz Band, the best jazz group of 1923; among its sidemen are
Louis Armstrong, clarinetist
Johnny Dodds and drummer
Baby Dodds. In addition,
Oliver is featured during 1928-29 backing singers
Texas Alexander and
Hazel Smith, interacting with guitarists
Eddie Lang and
Lonnie Johnson in a group dubbed "Blind Willie Dunn's Gin Bottle Four" and jamming on two numbers with pianist
Clarence Williams. Most of this historic music is available elsewhere.
