Almost entirely instrumental, the long songs found on
What Can & Can't Go On are dynamic, but with a calculated, studied energy.
Hosemobile wear their influences on their sleeve, and have all the right ingredients, but don't come up with anything that can be called their own sound. They are children of the math rock scene, and the heavy influence of
Slint and
Don Caballero is undeniable. Also heard are breakdowns and sharp turns similar to
Shudder to Think's, and the occasional sound of
Tool at their more subdued, as in the heavy guitar and restrained narration of "Digger." Although
Hosemobile doesn't add new ideas to the genres, this record could be a solid addition to the collections of big fans of math rock and heavier post-rock bands. ~ Joslyn Layne
