It's hard to pin down the exact heavy metal subgenre that Brooklyn, NY's
Tombs specialize in -- musically, it's a bit all over the place. Case in point, their 2009 offering,
Winterhours, which features death metal growls and music that touches upon extreme metal, doom metal, and even good old-fashioned
Iron Maiden-esque Euro-metal. But one thing's for sure, the whole adds up to be impressively hypnotic and relentless throughout, as evidenced by the punishing album opener "Gossamer" and the non-stop onslaught of "Beneath the Toxic Jungle." ~ Greg Prato
