Scotland-born
Alan Douglas began his lengthy engineering career as a tape operator under chief engineer
Mick Glossop at Oxfordshire, England's Manor Studio in November 1976. During the following years, the scope of his engineering work expanded as he worked with the likes of
the Jam,
Adam Ant,
XTC,
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark,
Asia,
Echo & the Bunnymen, and
Squeeze. With a particular fondness for guitar-based music,
Douglas developed a strong working relationship with
Eric Clapton, including engineering and mixing
Clapton's Grammy Award-winning 1994 album
From the Cradle, which was recorded live at London's Olympic Studios with no overdubs or edits. Other
Clapton albums engineered by
Douglas include 2000's
Riding with the King (with
B.B. King), 2001's
Reptile, 2004's
Me and Mr. Johnson, 2006's
The Road to Escondido (with
J.J. Cale), and 2013's Old Sock. ~ TiVo Staff
