Canadian-born, U.K.-based bassist
Antoine Fafard is a virtuoso performer with a bent toward progressive rock, jazz fusion, and classical. Born in Montreal,
Fafard started out on the piano at age nine, and then switched to studying classical guitar around age 11. By his teens he was an avid electric bassist and went on to study music in college. In the late '90s, he founded the prog rock outfit
Spaced Out, releasing five well-received albums. After the band broke up in 2008, he launched his solo career, debuting with 2011's
Solis Operandi, featuring drummer
Vinnie Colaiuta. Two years later, he returned with Occultus Tramitis. Around this same time, he relocated to London and released several more independently produced albums on his own Timeless Momentum label. In 2017, he delivered the ambitious concept effort Proto Mundi, which featured his longtime associates drummer
Simon Phillips, violinist
Jerry Goodman, and keyboardist
Gary Husband. For 2019's Borromean Oddysey,
Fafard teamed up with
Husband and drummer
Todd Sucherman. ~ Matt Collar
