Automatic are a trio from Los Angeles who play a coolly detached form of new wave/post-punk marked by driving rhythms and droning synthesizers, as heard on their 2019 debut, Signal. Automatic formed in 2017, consisting of synthesizer player Izzy Glaudini, drummer Lola Dompé (formerly of Blackblack, and daughter of Bauhaus' Kevin Haskins), and bassist Halle Saxon, with all three members sharing vocals. The trio quickly began playing shows, including dates opening for Poptone, a band which includes Dompé's father as well as her sister, Diva. Automatic gained a local following for their energetic performances and released a self-titled EP in 2018. After signing with Stones Throw in 2019, the trio issued the single "Calling It," backed with a cover of Delta 5's "Mind Your Own Business." This preceded their full-length debut, Signal, which arrived in late September. © Paul Simpson /TiVo
