Formed in July of 2001 by Eric Bemberger, Chris Hughes, and
Joel Petersen of
Gabardine,
Beep Beep were godfathered into a spot on
Gabardine's label, Saddle Creek.
Business Casual, their first record, released in August of 2004, was a fiery throwback to'70s post-punk and early
Kate Bush. This sound didn't last long, though, and after several lineup changes, by the time they entered the studio again in 2007 they had changed drastically, fully embracing new wave.
Joel Petersen, who had previously played bass for
the Faint and had released music under the name
Broken Spindles, left to resume recording as a solo act. Hughes left soon after, leaving a new lineup of Bemberger, Darren Keen (
the Show Is the Rainbow), Javid Dabestani (Bright Calm Blue), and James Reilly (Pharmacy Spirits). After whittling down 32 recorded songs to the 14 included on
Enchanted Islands, Saddle Creek released
Beep Beep's second album in March of 2009. ~ Jason Lymangrover
