West London Grime MC
Big Zuu sticks close to the roots of grime, but with a low, growling vocal style that sets him apart from his peers. Born in 1995,
Big Zuu grew up on West-London's infamous Mozart Estate alongside other grime MCs including
AJ Tracey, Sketch, and Wax, who would convene over the years to form the MTP crew. He recorded his first demos, as did
AJ Tracey, at their local youth center, The Rugby Club, which allowed the use of their studio on the proviso that no expletives were used during the process; while this may seem strict, it was the restrictions that helped develop
Zuu's approach to lyrics, forcing him to get creative to make his point. By 2016, MTP had begun building a significant fan base, leading to the breakout success of
AJ Tracey and the beginning of
Big Zuu's radio career, starting with The Joints Show for London's Radar Radio. The following year
Zuu had also emerged as a talented MC, leading to an appearance on
Charlie Sloth's Fire in the Booth and the release of the Big Zuzu EP. Early in 2018, he followed up with another EP, Hold Dat. ~ Liam Martin
