Chuck Brown / The Soul Searchers

Godfather of go-go Chuck Brown started out as a soul man, playing guitar with famed Chicago R&B crooner Jerry Butler in the 1960s. In the '70s, he began developing the primal, minimalist funk style that came to be known as go-go, which became the most celebrated export of the Baltimore/Washington area in the '80s. By that time, a host of younger artists had taken their cue from Brown's idiosyncratic sound. © TiVo
