Norwegian conductor Eivind Aadland got his start in music as a violinist; however, he studied under conductor Jorma Panula and likewise took to heart encouragement from Mariss Jansons to pursue conducting as a vocation. His first post was with the Bergen Philharmonic beginning in 1981, where he remained until 1989. In 1987, Aadland began a decade-long stint with the European Union Chamber Orchestra, which took him throughout Europe and helped establish his reputation. Since 2002, Aadland has been principal conductor and chief artistic advisor to the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and frequently performs with the Norwegian National Opera; Aadland also appears often as a guest conductor with orchestras throughout Scandinavia. He has recorded for BIS, Simax, Hyperion, Koch International, Sanctuary Classics, and Carlton Classics.
