New Haven Electronhic describe their sound as "Free Music leaning towards jazz...driven by Chapman Stick and Drums, with noise, electronics, saxophones, whistles and guitars." This difficult-to-pigeonhole and musically compelling ensemble grew out of the New Haven Improvisers Collective, of which it remains an integral part. The band consists of Brett Bottomley on Chapman Stick; Jeff Cedrone, guitar, keyboards, and electronics; Bob Gorry, guitar, electronics, Theremin; Paul McGuire, saxophones, Great Bass Recorder; and Peter Riccio, drums and percussion. They came together in 2014 with the motivating directive "...to keep still and leave space." Their music presented itself in silence and found its own breath without being forced into existence. Motion was allowed to gradually creep in with rhythms and energetic counterpoint, though a healthy amount of space remained. Electronhic issued its self-titled debut album in 2014 via NHIC's own label. They rehearsed and performed regionally, developing their sound over the next two years. They followed it in 2016 with Reaching Out. Produced by Gorry, it captured an aural portrait of the group's stated objectives as they had developed and shifted over time. Their sound was described in the media as adventurous, exploratory, and accessible. © Thom Jurek /TiVo
