The politically conscious indie rock band
Exit Clov (a name derived from Samuel Beckett's Endgame) bases itself in Washington, D.C., where twin sisters Emily Hsu (vocals, keyboard, violin) and Susan Hsu (vocals, guitar, violin) formed the group alongside guitarist Aaron Leeder, bassist Brett Niederman, and drummer John Thayer. Influenced by such artists as
Blondie,
Blur, and
Metric, the band took root in 2003 and, though inexperienced, played its first show within a month. In the following few years,
Exit Clov issued a handful of EPs: Starfish (2003), Saskwatch (2004), Jolly Roget Sessions (2006), and
Respond Respond (2006). ~ Kenyon Hopkin
