Self-described purveyors of "tropical grit pop," Brooklyn, New York-based indie electronic duo
Ghost Beach craft icy blasts of chillwave-kissed electro-pop that invokes names like
Washed Out,
Neon Indian,
Foals, and
Passion Pit. Formed in 2013 around the talents of
Josh Ocean (vocals, bass, synths) and
Eric Mendelsohn (guitars, synths, sampler), the duo draws much of its inspiration from the early '80s, citing artists like
Peter Gabriel,
the Police, and
Talking Heads as influences, though their moniker was lifted from a 1994 installment of the popular R.L. Stine-authored Goosebumps series.
Ghost Beach released a pair of EPs, Modern Tongues and
Miracle, ahead of their 2014 debut long-player, the Nettwerk-issued
Blonde. ~ James Christopher Monger
