Howard Huntsberry scored only a few times as a solo singer, but he did turn in some excellent performances while the lead vocalist of
Klique, an '80s trio that also included his sister Deborah Hunter and Isaac Suthers. Their finest number was a cover of
Jackie Wilson's "Stop Doggin' Me Around" in 1983.
Huntsberry's rendition was so similar to
Wilson's that he was tapped to play the soul star in 1987's
La Bamba.
Klique recorded for MCA from 1981 to 1985, getting one other Top 20 hit with "A Woman, A Lover, A Friend" in 1985. ~ Ron Wynn
