Jimmy Robinson

This fellow known as either James Robinson or Jimmy Robinson has a long track record as an engineer at the Record Plant in Los Angeles, but has also produced artists and performed as a guitarist in various bands. He is best known for the album Paris, in which he served in all his capacities, as well as personally stimulating participant Bob Welch into get off his rear following Welch's Fleetwood Mac departure and subsequent creative hiatus.

Early on, Robinson got valuable training from recording engineer and studio owner Eddie Kramer. Both Robinson and Walley Heider worked as remote engineers on the famous Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsies record--but famous or not, there are many Hendrix monks who think this recording came out horribly. A more recent production effort from Robinson is the hard-barking music of The Dogs. The connection with Welch was both a family and a business thing: Robinson had helped engineer some of the Fleetwood Mac stuff, and Welch had wound up marrying Robinson's sister. The Paris project was sort of concieved as a tribute to Led Zepelin. As a band, Paris worked out much better as a city, but apparently was a bit less of a disaster than the night Welch reputedly tried to turn his Gibson SG into a Fender Stratocaster with a chainsaw. ~ Eugene Chadbourne
