Multifaceted musician
Joe Goddard is one of the most prolific and well-respected indie/electronic artists in the U.K. -- he's a leading member of indie/soul/dance group
Hot Chip, half of fun-loving house duo
2 Bears, head of his own forward-thinking label, Greco Roman, and a successful solo producer/remix artist in his own right.
Goddard first appeared as part of indie dance five-piece
Hot Chip, who formed in 2000. Their debut album,
Coming on Strong, landed in 2004 on
Moshi Moshi. In 2006, the band moved to
EMI for their breakthrough full-length,
The Warning. The following year,
Goddard founded his own record label, Greco Roman, which would become an outlet for his love of house music. The first release was a 12" from
David E. Sugar titled "Oi New York, This Is London," and the label featured artists including
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs,
Drums of Death, and
Disclosure, to name a few.
Goddard had a busy year in 2009; not only was he touring the latest
Hot Chip record, 2008's
Made in the Dark, he also formed
2 Bears alongside
Raf Rundell and released his debut solo album,
Harvest Festival, via Greco Roman.
Goddard continued to release singles through his own label, including 2011's Gabriel and 2013's Taking Over. By 2016,
Hot Chip had released six records -- the latter two, In Our Heads and
Why Make Sense?, saw release through Domino -- while
2 Bears released two of their own efforts,
Be Strong and
The Night Is Young, through Southern Fried. Despite touring with both
Hot Chip and
2 Bears -- and performing a few DJ sets on the side --
Goddard found time to record his sophomore solo album, Electric Lines, which was released by Greco Roman and Domino in 2017. ~ Liam Martin
