John Feeney is an orchestral, chamber, and session double bassist on the busy New York scene. After studies with Linda McKnight, he entered the Juilliard School of Music in New York as a scholarship student, taking bass with David Walter. In 1978, he won a medal at the Geneva Competition, and in 1980, was first prize winner of the Zimmerman-Mingus International Competition and the Concert Artists Guild Competition. In 1979, he joined the Orchestra of St. Luke's, one of New York City's major chamber orchestras. He is married to Krista Bennion Feeney, a violinist who is also a member of St. Luke's. Together, they specialize in the violin-bass repertoire written by Bottesini (who was also a bassist married to a violinist), and Feeney plays double bass concertos regularly. Mr. Feeney frequently plays chamber music and has appeared at major festivals, such as the Mt. Desert Island, Spoleto, and Bridgehampton Festivals. He has recorded with the Nonesuch, MusicMasters, Telarc, CBS, Arabesque, RCA, EMI, Sony, and BMG labels. © TiVo
