Born on May 20, 1944 on the island of Java in the (then) Dutch East Indies, legendary singer/songwriter Boudewijn de Groot, best known for the songs "Welterusten, Meneer de President," "Land van Maas en Waal," "Avond," and "Jimmy," began as a protest singer.
