Nataly Dawn (born Nataly Dawn Knutsen) was born in 1986 to missionary parents and spent the bulk of her childhood in Europe. After spending her formative years in France and Belgium, she moved to California to study Art and French literature at Stanford, where she met fellow musician
Jack Conte and formed
Pomplamoose. She released her first collection of solo material, Her Earlier Stuff, in 2009. In 2011, she appeared on the song "Letter from a Fan," from
Barry Manilow's conceptual 15 Minutes album. That same year she started a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a new album. She met her goal in just three days, and in 2012 inked a deal with Nonesuch Records who agreed to release it. The resulting
