Niamh Kavanagh

Niamh Kavanagh

Ireland's second successive Eurovision Song Contest winner in 1993, singer Niamh Kavanagh was born in 1968, and had already carved herself a career in the Irish movie industry (she is heavily featured on the soundtrack to The Commitments) before being invited to represent Ireland at Eurovision. Her winning song, "In Your Eyes," became the year's best-selling single in her homeland, and was a major hit elsewhere around Europe. Since that time, Kavanagh has performed and recorded around the world -- her debut album, Flying Blind, was recorded in Nashville with John Jennings, while her collaboration with Gerry Carney, Together Alone, included a brilliant revision of "In Your Eyes." ~ Dave Thompson
