A luminescent personality who creates dark tech-house, DJ and producer
Seth Troxler was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan. With a DJ for a stepfather, the young
Seth was exposed to techno and hip-hop, which was a perfect cultural setup for his family's move to Detroit when he was 14. He immersed himself in the city's vibrant techno scene, attending rave parties and then throwing his own, including the booking of the revered DJ
Magda when
Troxler was just 15. In 2002, the 16-year-old
Troxler began working as a dance music buyer at a Detroit record store and also landed his first DJ gig at a club. After graduating high school he toured Europe on a package put together by Omar S's FXHE label, then when he graduated college he packed up and moved to Berlin, Detroit's sister city in techno. His 2006 debut 12", "Love Bezerker," led to releases on Wagon Repair, Raum, Wolf + Lamb, and NRK. He launched the Visionquest label with fellow DJs
Ryan Crosson,
Shaun Reeves, and
Lee Curtiss, while the labels Tuskegee, Play It Say It, and Soft Touch were all launched by
Troxler on his own. He's also an avid fan of food and drink, opening pop-up restaurants at various dance festivals with a focus on barbecued food and smoked meats. ~ David Jeffries
