An Omaha, NE-based project led by singer and songwriter
Joe Knapp (best known as a collaborator with
Bright Eyes),
Son, Ambulance made their first recorded appearance on a split LP with the aforementioned
Bright Eyes entitled Oh Holy Fools in 2001. Signed to Saddle Creek,
Son, Ambulance -- then made up of
Knapp, Robert Little (bass), Jeff Koster (drums), and Jeff Tafolla (keys) -- released their own full-length debut later that year, entitled
Euphemystic. Their next recording sessions, for what would become the untitled album known as
Key (due to the image of a key on the cover), would involve a completely new and expanded membership, including Jenna Morrison, Daniel Knapp, Dylan Strimple, and Erica Petersen. The album was released on Saddle Creek in 2005. After three years of relative silence, the band returned -- this time mainly as a one-man project with
Joe Knapp taking the lead, collaborating with Jeff Koster and Daniel Knapp -- with the 2008 release (still on Saddle Creek)
Someone Else's Déjà Vu. The album included guest appearances from members of fellow Nebraskan groups
Tilly and the Wall and
the Faint. ~ Chris True
