Steve Weisberg gained a little bit of attention in the mid-'80s due to his erratic, if somewhat humorous, recording, I Can't Stand Another Night Alone in Bed with You for
Carla Bley's Xtra Watt label.
Weisberg began piano lessons when he was seven, studying classical music until he discovered jazz when he was 15. After high school, he attended Berklee, took private lessons in composition from Mike Gibbs, who introduced him to
Carla Bley. In addition to his 1985 record,
Weisberg contributed pieces to
Hal Willner's
Kurt Weill and Disney projects, became a member of
Karen Mantler's band, and participated in her recording, My Cat Arnold. He maintained a fairly low profile in the '90s. ~ Scott Yanow
