Swedish black metal band
the Legion were formed in 1999 by drummer Emil Dragotinovic with guitarists David Svartz and Rikard Kottelin, who recorded a pair of demos in the next few years before releasing their 2003 EP, Awakened Fury, also featuring vocalist Sune Hammarström and bass player Lars Martinsson. Along with its same-year successor, the Unseen to Creation album (introducing new vocalist Anders Fäldt), this placed the group's style squarely in the Swedish black metal tradition of inexorable fury and indefatigable speed, alongside the likes of
Dark Funeral and
Naglfar. But
the Legion were then silenced until 2006 while Dragotinovic assumed the drum stool with
Marduk, at which time their second album,
Revocation, was released, and saw Svartz taking over vocals, Martinsson assuming his guitar playing duties, and new bassist Kristoffer Andersson joining the fold. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
