Battle Born is op kleinere schaal gebouwd, maar de Killers hebben de uitgespreidheid van Sam’s Town wel geïnternaliseerd, en de wijdse geest van de woestijn, en dan is er ook nog de continue obsessie met Bruce Springsteens mini-opera’s over gewonnen, verloren- en vergokte liefde. Hun licht verweerde houding maakt deel uit van hun appeal. Als hun leeftijd de aanval van de Killers heeft veranderd, dan heeft Brandon Flowers als tekstschrijver daar geen kaas van gegeten. Hij blijft nog trouw aan compleet verbazingwekkende poëzie en gemankeerde observaties die op een of andere manier innemend werken, verpakt als ze zijn in de goed geoliede machinerie van Battle Born.
