A century and a half of Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, collected in the twelve CDs of this album. From 1867 to 2017, the listener discovers an impressive amount of Danish composers and interpreters from the Danish music sphere. It all started with the founding fathers, Niels Gade and Johann Peter Emilius Hartmann, followed by their first emulators: world-famous Carl Nielsen of course, but also creators mostly renowned in Scandinavia such as Knut Riisager and Finn Høffdking. Then came the composers active after the Great War, or even the Second World War: Vagn Holmboe, Herman Koppel and Niels Bentzon, followed by composers who could more freely cross borders to receive an education, live, and work abroad – which means that they cemented a reputation in our societies as well: Per Nørgård, Hans Abrahamsen, Erik Højsgaard, Bent Sørensen. From the sixth CD, the trip takes the listener to the world of Danish interpreters, from the internationally well-known – among them Kim Borg, Endre Wolf, Michal Schønwand – to more locally renowned artists. But in no way does it imply they are bad, or even mediocre: this album is filled with amazing surprises! Not to mention that numerous recordings presented here had never been released before, while others remained unavailable for years. © SM/Qobuz
