Specializing in banda sinaloense, Banda Guasaveña are best known for their longtime association with banda legend Valentin Elizalde. Founded in Guasave, Sinaloa, the group toured with Elizalde and performed on his albums; together they were known as Valentin Elizalde y Su Banda Guasaveña. Following the tragic murder of Elizalde in 2006, however, Banda Guasaveña were forced to carry on without their longtime frontman. Respectfully changing their billing to Banda Guasaveña de Valentin Elizalde, they made their full-length album debut with Dedicado a Ti on Universal Music Latino in 2006. The album was a regional Mexican sensation and spawned the hit single "Solo un Sueño." On Banda Guasaveña's second album, Mi Primo, Mi Amigo, Mi Hermano (2008), they continued to pay homage to Elizalde.
