California-native Brita Beseth broke through to the mainstream pop audience as a result of a chance meeting with an internet entrepreneur while on tour with the University of Berkley's female vocal group. At the university, Brita studied chemical engineering, though the desire to become a full-time singer/songwriter was always a dream. She started playing classical piano when she was three and went on to star in school musical productions. On the surface she was a left-brained sports player and science lover, but she would always sing in private, performing for an audience of one. When she reached college, she joined the university's a cappella female vocal group as a break from the sciences. While on tour with the group, in which she took lead vocal, she met one of the first investors in mp3 technology. One class away from graduation, she left the university to take up the investor's offer to be the first Internet-backed recording artist, a move by the investor to fusion the Internet and recording industry. Her first EP, Britaworld.com, was released in 2000 and accompanied by a major ad and Internet campaign.
