Eirik Myhr (born 1982), from the small Norwegian town of Ringebu, has been writing songs and composing music since the age of seven, and worked regularly on Norwegian films, television and stage productions since 2006. Due to his songwriting and band background, his music is sometimes a cross between classical scoring styles and an indie pop/rock aesthetic - or one or the other. Whether he is working with a string quintet-based, minimalist score like the Polish/Norwegian documentary film I AM KUBA, or the crazy, Ylvis-like songs for comedian Bård Tufte Johansen's wildly popular stand-up performance MANN (44), the constant versatility of the projects is what keeps him going.
Myhr's feature film scores include LOS BANDO (most award winning Norwegian film of 2018), RAFIKI and THE TOUGH GUYS. For the latter, Myhr was awarded the 2013 Music Award by the Norwegian composer and lyricist organization NOPA, as well as the award Best Comedy Score 2013 by film music website Reel Music (other nominees included Alexandre Desplat and Henry Jackman).
For the stage, he has scored three different stageplay adaptations of Henrik Ibsen's PEER GYNT, also incorporating Edvard Grieg's legendary themes in new and unexpected ways. Sticking to the classics of Scandinavian literature, he has also scored highly acclaimed stage adaptions of two of Astrid Lindgren's most beloved fantasy works - THE BROTHERS LIONHEART and MIO IN THE LAND OF FARAWAY. In addition, Myhr has crafted the musical fairytale universe of TROLLNATT - the annual summer stageplay concept at the folklore-themed amusement park Hunderfossen (the "Disneyland" of Norwegian fairytales!), now in its 9th season. As the subject matter makes evident, there is a clear presence of "the Nordic Sound" in much of Myhr's work.
Eirik Myhr has also penned themes for a number of famous Norwegian TV series like the award winning BO BEAR and TANGERUDBAKKEN, and scored many short films. In between battles he is working on his new solo EP, aptly titled "Wait for it - Vol. 1".
