T-Power's innovative breakbeat productions always place him a couple steps ahead of the pack. As well as being one of the first atmospheric Drum 'n' Bass producers, he cooked up some experimental downtempo tracks which prefigured the Ninja Tune label's rise to prominence. On his elaborate Drum 'n' Bass compositions, washes of metallic, digitally processed atmospherics introduce shifting, stuttering breakbeats in which mammoth basslines plant their imprints like elephants lumbering through a freshly plowed field. Siren-like synth noises descend from dentist's drill frequencies as bottom-feeding basslines dive into the lower depths, accompanied by edgy vocal snippets. His downtempo work is even more tweaked: dirty synth waves thrash and squiggle their way through stark Ambient landscapes accompanied by breakbeats which lope unevenly along, speeding up and slowing down in bewilderingly unpredictable tape manipulations. And his devilishly funky Big Beat grooves round out a sound that's already far too eclectic for its own good.
