Disney's animated blockbuster musical Aladdin finally gets its Broadway treatment courtesy of director-choreographer Casey Nicholaw and a colorful cast of veterans and newcomers. The 2014 stage version includes the songs from the original 1992 film written by composer
Alan Menken and lyricists
Howard Ashman and
Tim Rice, along with new material and a few previously unreleased songs that had been cut from the film. Featured here on the original Broadway cast recording is Adam Jacobs as the street rat Aladdin who captures the heart of misunderstood princess Jasmine, played by Courtney Reed. The role of the Genie is played by veteran actor James Monroe Iglehart, and reprising his role (from the original film) as the villain Jafar is
Jonathan Freeman. This colorful new adaptation has received a fresh and lively makeover that builds on the original story loved by so many, and the new musical additions find their way seamlessly into the mix. ~ Timothy Monger
